Obituary for Gay Cater (Mandrofsky)

Gay Cater (Mandrofsky)
On Friday, September 29, 2017, our beloved mother was welcomed home in heaven. Gay P. Cater was born to parents, Fred and Ruth Mandrofsky, on December 19, 1935, in Clarendon, Texas. She was one of the most amazing, loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend. Gay lived a full and interesting life. She moved with her parents and baby sister from Texas to the Pecos river valley and Fort Sumner where her father became a successful farmer and her mother raised her and her sister. Gay attended and graduated from Fort Sumner schools. She met and married the love of her life Donald Cater, on December 16, 1955. They started a life filled with travel and adventure around the state following road jobs. Gay’s family moved to Rio Grande Valley in 1976, and they put down roots. After we were all in school she decided to return to school and attended TVI and received a licensed practical nurse certificate. Gay went on to work at Belen Meadows in Belen, for 17 years. She retired and took on the full time job of caring for her husband and helping her family with the grandchildren. Gay was such an inspiration to all of her grandchildren and 3 of her grand-daughters that they have become or will soon be nurses.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Cater; grandparents; baby brother; her parents; In-laws; brothers-in-law, Leroy Nowell, Oliver and Delbert Cater, Pecos Finley; and sister-in-law Eleanor Finley.
