Obituary for Joseph (Barry) Blythe

Joseph (Barry) Blythe
Joseph (Barry) Blythe, age 86, a resident of Albuquerque (previously Los Lunas) New Mexico passed away on May 5, 2018.
Barry was born in Amarillo, TX on June 15, 1931 to Joseph Karner and Pepita (Espinosa) Blythe. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Business Administration in1954 where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Following graduation, Barry entered the United States Airforce as a Mission Pilot and earned the rank of First Lieutenant from 1955 through 1958. He spent the next 20 years participating in his family business, the Blythe Insurance Agency, selling insurance and also developing real-estate through the Blythe Land & Development Company. He reached his goal of earning a lifetime membership to the Million Dollar Round Table which is the highest honor awarded in the insurance industry. In his next endeavor, he managed the insurance department of Albuquerque Federal Savings and Loan for 11 years. Before retiring, Barry applied his expertise in the insurance industry by opening his own businesses, Trinity Agencies, serving New Mexico and Texas grocers and then later The Insurance Group, Ltd. where he continued to sell insurance independently.
Barry’s passions and joys included following and leading others to Christ, fly fishing, wine making, gardening, golfing, and comradery with family. A primary interest of Barry’s was hunting with his brothers, sisters, and children, where he embraced God’s gift of nature and taught others to appreciate God’s creations.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Karner and Pepita Blythe; brothers, Joseph Blythe, William Blythe. Phillip Blythe, and Ernest Blythe; and sister, Judith Blythe.
Barry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcia (Noble) Blythe; sister Nancy (Blythe) Perez; children, Barbara Blythe (Jeff Bakewell), Joseph Blythe Jr. (Mary), John Blythe (Debra) and Cathy Chavez (Adam). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Kristen Gorbell, Jacob Blythe (Audrey), Katie Gorbell, Janessa Blythe, Kyle Chavez, Casey Chavez, and Joseph Blythe III.
A celebration of life services is planned for Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Foothills Fellowship Church, 12504 Candelaria Road, NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Los Lunas Chapel, 2211-D Main St., (505) 866-9992.
