Obituary for Marquita Cornelius (Alexander)

Marquita Cornelius (Alexander)
Marquita A. Cornelius, age 88, a resident of Belen, NM passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018. She was born on September 24, 1929 in Ida Lou, Texas, to Lafayette and Leona Alexander. Marquita was raised in Clovis, New Mexico, and graduated from Clovis High School, in 1947. She married Jack Cornelius on March 11, 1951, and moved to Belen, New Mexico that following September. Marquita was a member of Sierra Vista Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling and was a secretary for many leagues. Marquita also enjoyed painting, traveling, and crafts. Marquita is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Jack Cornelius; children, Kit Cornelius and wife, Sandra, Mark Cornelius and wife, Mary, Lisa Gregory and husband, Donal; grandchildren, Jerome Cornelius, Mark Cornelius II, Ronald Coker, Kristen Cornelius; 4 great-grandchildren; and sister, Cleta Shipley of Clovis NM. Marquita is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A Viewing will be held at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services will be held at Sierra Vista Baptist Church 105 La Luna Pl., Belen, New Mexico, 87002 on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. A Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a Funeral Service to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis, NM. Pallbearers are Larry Cannon, Edwin Cornelius, Jerome Cornelius, Ronald Coker, Gary Baker, and Arturo De La Cerda. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Cannon, Tom Wilson, Doug Robb, and Chuck Hammer. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to NM Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505)864-4448.
