Obituary for Christina Garcia (Urias)

Christina Garcia (Urias)
Christina (Tina) Garcia, 54, of Los Lunas, NM finished her journey on Earth on April 23, 2017. Tina was born to David and Antonia Urias on September 26, 1962 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the 10th of 12 children born to Mr. and Mrs. “U”. Tina was raised and educated in Albuquerque’s North Valley until 1975 when her family moved to Los Lunas. In later years Tina would begin her career as a hair stylist after graduating from cosmetology school in Albuquerque. Tina was a tireless worker and worked at different hair salons in the Albuquerque and Los Lunas area until a few months before her passing. During many of those years Tina worked two jobs. For 17 years she worked at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School spending her days working with her clients, before heading to her evening job styling hair. Tina was a wonderful woman who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She took great pleasure from spending time with her family and supporting their endeavors. When she wasn’t spending her free time cheering on her family, Tina enjoyed putting a dollar or two in the slot machines at Isleta. One of the most memorable moments in Tina’s life was travelling to Denver to watch her beloved Minnesota Vikings play the Broncos at Mile High Stadium. Tina was preceded in death by her father David, her mother Antonia, her sisters Mary Urias and Marcy Prudencio, and her brothers Juan and Rueben Urias. She also was preceded in death by her special angel and companion “Babe”. She is survived by Henry (Lee) Urias, Press (Dorothy) Urias, Irene (AT) Chavez, David (Hazel) Urias, Edward (Sandra) Urias, Luis (Lisa) Urias, and Carolyn (Lawrence) Sanchez. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews who adore her. It was a family tradition that “Auntie T” had the honor of giving her nieces and nephews their first haircut. She continued this tradition when her nieces and nephews started having families of their own. Even though Tina was not blessed to have children of her own, Auntie “T” was a second mother to her nieces and nephews. She loved them all very much, and she considered them her “kids” until her dying breath. Tina will be deeply missed by all her family especially her brothers and sisters. She was the jokester of the family, always bringing a smile to all with her infectious laugh. She enjoyed her many shopping and dining adventures with her fellow “Baldwin” sister and angel. Services will be held on Friday April 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, NM. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m.; the rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish hall. Tina will be laid to rest at a later date with her parents. Pallbearers are her nephews Keith Sanchez and AT Chavez IV, and her nieces Krystle Moya and Jacklynn Sanchez. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tina’s hospice care givers Jamie and Jennifer who worked tirelessly to provide loving care and comfort to Tina during her final months. Tina fought a great battle against cancer, and in the end cancer didn’t win. Instead Tina went out on her own terms choosing to spend her last months in hospice with her family rather than submit herself to the ravages of chemotherapy. She was a great role model for us all, exhibiting strength and courage until the very end. It is not “goodbye Tina”, but rather “see you on the other side”, and when our time comes hopefully we can all welcome our mortality as bravely as she did. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Los Lunas Chapel, 2211-D Main St., (505) 866-9992
