Obituary for Ricardo Medina
In the early morning hours of October 4, 2017, Ricardo Medina Sr., age 61, a resident of Rio Communities, was called to take his eternal place beside Jesus. Ricardo was born in Silver City, NM on May 19, 1956, to Gilbert and Betty Medina. He graduated from Western New Mexico University with Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Special Education and later went on to obtain his Juris Doctorate from University of New Mexico School of Law.
Ricardo was a devoted husband, father and entrepreneur. He was a consummate teacher, taking every opportunity to enrich the lives and minds of those around him with his vast knowledge and ability to inspire curiosity. One of his shining moments was owning and operating two successful historic theaters in his hometown of Silver City. He enjoyed music, traveling, and, above all, spending time with family. From a very young age, Ricardo had an inspiring faith in the Lord and helped many to find and deepen their relationships with Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Shaw Medina; paternal grandmother, Don Otilia Medina; maternal grandmother, Anita Molina; brothers, Gilbert and Ralph; aunt, Nadine Molina and Josie Molina; uncles, Ernesto & Mike Molina, Vincent, and Paul Castillo; and godson, Andy Lomali.
Ricardo leaves behind to honor his memory his wife of 36 years, Donna Medina; his children, Rosemary Smith (Dave), Charity Wilson (Anthony), Sarah Medina, Hannah Adams (Phillip), and Ricardo Medina, Jr. (Tynisha); his grandchildren, Zachary Smith (Rosemarie) and Ivander Wilson (Charity). He is also survived his mother, Betty Molina; his sisters, Yvonne Medina, Yolanda Aguirre (Saul), Patricia Medina, Sylvia Rangel (Tim), and Mindy Manzano (Manny); and brothers, Steven Shaw (TJ), Danny Molina, Jeremiah, and Gabriel. Ricardo also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. He also leaves behind his faithful 4-legged family members, Blue, Juliette, Daisy, Mack, Lola, Mavis, JoJo, Lucy, Cooper, Grayson and Jax.
Like those who went before him, Ricardo will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he has touched.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 12th at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel beginning with a viewing at 2:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3:00 PM. Ricardo will be buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, October 13 at 9:00 AM. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W.
