Obituary for Pablo Hernandez Jr.
Pablo Hernandez, age 92, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Belen NM. Pablo was a life long resident of Los Lentes, NM. He was born in Smelter, Texas on May 28, 1925. He graduated from Los Lunas High School in 1943 and received his Associates degree from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. Pablo was a WWII Combat Veteran and fought in Italy during WWII. He was seriously wounded in battle and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He retired from Kirtland Air Force Base (Defense Nuclear Agency) in 1982 after 35 years of government service. Pablo loved his family and was very loving of his pets through the years. Pablo was a devoted Christian man who served the Lord for many years. He was very fond of professional boxing and football. Most of all, he loved spending time with his many grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo Hernandez Sr. and Manuela Hernandez; In-laws, Felipe and Sofia Romero; sisters, Cruz Gabaldon, Dora Gutierrez, Carmen Carrasco and Belia Gurule; brothers, Daniel and Pedro Hernandez; infant twin siblings, Solomon Hernandez and Virginia Hernandez; son-in-law, Jose Pena; and adopted daughter, Helen Martinez.
Pablo is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Flora Hernandez; daughter, Carla Pena; sons, George (Christine), Michael (Lucille), Eddie (Cora); and his sister Virginia (Tony) Aragon. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 26 at First Assembly of God church in Belen, beginning with a public viewing at 5:00 PM. The Funeral Service will follow at 6:00PM. Pablo will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, October 27 at 9:00 AM. Pallbearers: Michael Hernandez, Kenneth Pena, Ronald Pena, Dwayne Pena, Edward Hernandez Jr., Ryan Hernandez.
