Obituary for Mayme Youngblood (Davis)

Mayme Youngblood (Davis)
Mayme Ellen nee Davis, Snell, Stevenson, Youngblood passed into Glory on Saturday,
December 2, 2017. Mayme was born on Christmas Day 1923, in Lemoore, California, to Sully and
Sylvia Davis. In 1927, her mother and father and older brother, Edward traveled from Lemoore,
California, back to Lincoln, New Mexico, where Sylvia’s family had homesteaded in the 1890’s.
They traveled in a Model T Ford in the fall taking over a week to make the journey. Mayme
grew up in the mountains and hills of Lincoln County New Mexico, with a large extended family
of pioneer ranchers in the area. She attended Capitan High School. In December 1940, Mayme
married William “Bill” Snell, of Nogal, New Mexico, and traveled the state of New Mexico while
William helped to build the highway system as a heavy equipment operator. They settled in
Belen, in August of 1953, and raised their six children there. William passed away in April 1962,
and Mayme raised her daughter and five sons on her own. She received her GED and then went
on to receive her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from Presbyterian Hospital. She
worked for Dr. Jose Rivas, at the Belen General Hospital, and then at the Los Lunas Hospital and
Training School for many years. She met and married JD Stevenson, in September 1966, and
enjoyed nine years with him when he passed away suddenly in May 1975. In 1978 she married
Boyce O. Youngblood, a first grade classmate from Lincoln, New Mexico. They were married
for thirty years, with Boyce’s passing in September 2008. Mayme is survived by her children,
Margarete Smith and husband, Melvin of Los Chavez, New Mexico, Tommy Snell and wife, Sharon of
Carlsbad, New Mexico, Billie Snell and wife, Roxy of Thousand Palms, California, Gary Snell and wife, Rue
of Monte Vista, Colorado, Jimmie Snell and wife, Gay of Los Lunas, New Mexico, and Gilbert
“Buddy” Snell of Rio Communities, New Mexico. She is also survived by two stepsons, Barry and
wife, Chris Youngblood of Bend, Oregon, and Les and wife, Lynn Youngblood of Seattle,
Washington; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Snell of Glen Rock, Wyoming; and her brother’s two
daughters, Debbie Davis of El Paso, Texas, and Barbara Brisbin of San Antonio, Texas. She is
also survived by 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Los Chavez, on Friday, December 8, 2017. A Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a Funeral Service to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery, followed by a reception at First Baptist Church in Los Chavez. It is with grateful hearts that we wish to thank Doctor Roland and wife, Elia Sanchez for their care over many years, Al and
Dolores Padilla of Al’s Styling Salon for doing Mom’s hair each Friday for almost forty-five
years, Ambercare Hospice, Rose and Anna for helping Mom, and most especially for the prayers
of Brother Boyd Morerod and the congregation of First Baptist Church, Los Chavez. In lieu of flowers please make donations to First Baptist Church Los Chavez. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505)864-4448.
