Pedro Salomon Martinez, Age 97, a resident of Tome-Los Lunas, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018, surrounded by his grandchildren. Salomon was born and raised in Wagon Mound, NM. His childhood included herding and caring for sheep on the family farm and spending time with his large family. In the 40s he moved to Los Angeles California where he met and married his wife, Sophie. After their marriage, they returned to Tome, where they started a dairy and began their life as farmers. After his retirement, Salomon and Sophie lived out the remainder of their life on their family farm where they kept a large garden, chickens, sheep, and steer. He was a founding member of Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church. Salomon was a devout Methodist who participated in and supported his Church. He enjoyed teaching and attending bible study classes and enjoyed being a part of the church family. Salomon was a farmer by trade but also was a member of the Los Lunas School Board for a time and also served as the Chairman of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District for several years. He was the youngest and last surviving sibling of 19 children. Salomon is preceded in death by; his loving wife of 59 years, Sophie Jaramillo Martinez; his son, Carlos Luis Martinez Sr.; parents, Pedro Martinez and Adelina Paltenghe Martinez; siblings, Raquel Portillo, Samuel Martinez, Margarita Sandoval, Josephina Martinez, Alice Mares, Inocencio Martinez, Susanita Garcia, Zorida Martinez, Carlos Martinez, Celia Lopez, Juan Bautista Martinez, Viola Sandoval, Lilia Montoya, Pablo Martinez, Alejandro Martin, Francisquita Linker, Pedro Ernesto Martinez, and Nobela Martinezand; and grand-daughter, Elsa Sophia Martinez. He is survived by his grandchildren, Carlos and wife, Nicole Martinez of Austin TX, Maria and husband, Forrest Darst of Tome NM, Juanita and husband, Joseph Altobello of Los Lunas NM, and Alberto and wife, Jennifer Martinez of Centennial CO); 11 great grandchildren, Felina Martinez, Sophia Martinez, Carlos Martinez III, Antonio Altobello, Alyssa Martinez, Abby Altobello, Lucy Darst, Daniel Altobello, Christopher Martinez, Aurora Martinez, and Logan Hunter Martinez; and daughter-in-law, Rosemay Martinez of Tome. Salomon is also survived by many nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church, on July 7, 2018. A Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a Funeral Service to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers that lovingly cared for Salomon: Erika Mendez-Dozal, Rita Mendez, Yolanda Magallanes-Romero, Carmen Leticia Sosa & Silvia as well as the caring staff of Armada HealthCare Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to the PMUMC Youth Group in his name - a group that Salomon often supported and donated to.
