Obituary for Joanne DeWitt Bach (DeWitt)

Joanne DeWitt Bach (DeWitt)
1928-2018
Joanne DeWitt Bach, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at home and in the loving company of her daughter and two treasured caretakers. She was born in 1928 in Tank, PA, into a large family with 7 sisters, who moved to Lancaster, PA.
Joanne was predeceased in 2017 by her husband, George Bach, of Belen. She is survived by 6 sisters, two of them older than she, and by her daughter, son, stepdaughter and stepson, 3 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joanne had a colorful life: after marrying George and while living in Massachusetts, she was founder and director of Alpha Center for Women in Springfield. Joanne was a master chef and an artist, and her late son, David Meade Walker, was an extremely accomplished artist. She was a member of the Belen Art League, as well as several other local art groups and a book club – Joanne perhaps loved reading best of all. Being the granddaughter of two landscape professionals, she was an avid gardener and taught her family the joys of the outdoors and gardening. Having come from the East Coast, Joanne finally mastered the art of xeriscaping when she moved to Belen in 1994, and was a member of the Xeriscape Club. Joanne was a volunteer for the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area and helped do plantings at the Bosque del Apache and the Camino del Real visitor center. She was involved in politics for many years; she campaigned for Bill Richardson, Michael Sanchez, Patricia Madrid, etc.
She wanted to live long enough to see her century plant in the front yard bloom. And she did. There will be a private remembrance. Donations to Whitfield (WWCA) or the Bosque del Apache would be a lovely way to honor her.
No services are scheduled at this time.
Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505)864-4448.
