Print
Elfigo Carabajal Jr., “Papa,” age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2018. He entered this world at the family home on September 29, 1932 in Peralta, NM, and was born to Jose Elfigo and Louisa O. Carabajal.
He was preceded in death by his wife Adelina, his parents Jose Elfigo and Louisa O., and his brothers Joe, Lorenzo and Eloy. He was married for fifty-three years before his wife Adelina passed away in April of 2016.
Elfigo is survived by his daughter Katherine, her husband Randy Chavez and their children Joshua and Jaron. Son James and his wife Elizabeth, and their children Michelle, Christian, Marianna, Josephine, Elizabeth, and great-grandchild Miriam. Daughter Victoria Trujillo and her children Christopher and Antonio, sons of Miguel Trujillo.
Elfigo is also survived by his brothers and sisters and their families, Frank “Pancho”, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Olguin, Peggy “Pina” Torres, Philip and his wife Beatrice, Louise and her husband Benny Zamora, and the many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and family friends Millie Garms and sister Bobbie.
Elfigo attended Los Lunas High School, where he participated in many sports and was voted “Best Physique.” After Elfigo graduated from Los Lunas High School, he enlisted in the Navy and fought in the Korean War. Upon discharge from the Navy, he attended Highlands University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. It was there that met his wife Adelina. Thereafter, he worked for Duke City Lumber Company until he retired thirty-five years later.
Papa was best known for his giving nature, gardening, roasting chili and watching sports. He really was a Dallas Cowboys’ fan despite downplaying how much he liked the team. He loved to watch the Lobos play and he always seemed to remember the Lobos even though he seemed to forget other things.
Elfigo’s children would like to thank the many family members, friends and co-workers who have shown their love and support during this difficult time.
