George (Shadow) G. Tapia, Born October 21, 1942, in Ilfeld, NM, San Miguel county, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 in Los Lunas, NM. George was one of a kind. His exuberance for life and living was unmatched and always evident in that brilliant smile. George joined the Army Guard in January of 1960 when he was just 17 years old and left the Army guard in January of 1965. George later joined the Air National Guard in July of 1981 until he retired in December of 1996. George was very proud to serve our Country and loved the opportunity to travel. He was able to take a trip to Europe in 2005 and often spoke of it as a “trip of a lifetime” George was a man of great faith. He never knew a stranger, all who met George came away with the feeling they had just met an old friend. He enjoyed fishing and had great patience waiting for “the big one”. After suffering from a prolonged illness for over 12 ½ years, he was called Home. George’s love and trust in our Lord never wavered. He was truly an inspiration for those who knew him. George is preceded in death by his father, Ramon Tapia and mother, Vidalia Tapia (Aragon); his son, Jessie Tapia; sister, Annie Hernandez; brothers Danny R Tapia and Johnny Tapia. He is survived by his longtime companion and Corazon, Darlene Taylor; son, Guy Tapia, and daughter, Terry Enriquez; Granddaughters, Angel Enriquez, Crystal Enriquez and Diamond Enriquez; one great granddaughter, Alexa (daughter of Crystal and Mario Torrez); sisters, Toni Lopez and Leon, of Los Lunas NM and Pauline Davis of AZ; brothers, Raymond Tapia and Maryann of Albuquerque, NM, and Lloyd Tapia and Joyce of Los Lunas, NM. Pallbearers are Leon Lopez, Leonard Lopez, Rey Encee, Raymond Tapia, Cruz Enriquez and Mario Torrez. All services will be held at San Clemente Catholic Church, 244 Luna Avenue, Los Lunas, NM, on Monday, March 4, 2019. A viewing will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM.
