Sawyer Magdalen DeMint, age 67, a resident of Socorro, NM passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019. She was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin where she spent her first 65 years. Sawyer and her husband Steve moved to Socorro, NM in March 2017 Sawyer was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. She graduated from J.I. Case High School in 1969 and worked at Johnson Wax, Ganton Technologies, Case/Fiat, The Board of Realtors and WRIN Radio. Her last employment was with Racine Police Department as Secretary to the Deputy Chief of the Patrol Department. Sawyer loved working and always made a point of helping others at work. In 2007 She was awarded "Civilian Employee Police Service Award" for her dedication and interest within her administrative function. Sawyer was diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimer's) in 2010, which lead to her retirement from the Police Department in 2011.She loved to walk, bowl and play darts. Also, Sawyer was a creative person. She used to draw, paint, make jewelry and leather purses, and scrapbooked. Sawyer loved to read, Reader's Digest, People Magazine and books. Two of her favorite authors were James Patterson (Sawyer loved a good mystery) and Janet Evanovich (she also loved a good comedy) which she would laugh out loud while reading. Sawyer also loved to sing along with late 50's and 60's rock and roll music. Her favorite band was Three Dog Night and whenever Sawyer would her "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong she would start to cry remembering her mother. Sawyer with all her kindness and laughter will be greatly missed.
