Ray Luna ascended into heaven at 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 7, 2019. He succumbed to his year and a half long battle with lung cancer. Ray was a strong, courageous, talented, humorous, tender hearted individual whose resilience in life was extraordinary. He was born in San Jose, California, November 14, 1960 and moved to Belen in 1972. Ray was an amazing talented artist who learned his craft at the young age of 13. His passion for painting cars was his pride and joy over his lifetime. Ray was also well known for his amazing paintings on diesel trucks and small aircrafts but it was his incredible unique custom designs that he was best known for. He leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Diane Sanchez; his two darling daughters, Lorraine Lindbloom and Joanna Luna; mother, Sarah Luna; father, Raymond Luna; and his siblings, Mateo Luna, Samuel Luna, Jennifer Reese, Jonathon Rose, Kelly Rose, and Fidel Luna. Ray is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and four beautiful grandchildren, Jayden, Lauren, Sophia and Gianna Lindbloom. There will not be a public viewing and all Prayers are appreciated. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505)864-4448, where an online guest register is available at

My sincere condolences to the family of Ray. I knew him in the 1980's and he was truly a very talented artist. He was brave, honest
and passionate about many things. He knew my family through the paint/body business and was always a gentleman. I was made aware of his death just recently and I am sure he is now free and flying with the angels in Heaven now. My thoughts and prayers are directed his way. Cyn

Brother Ray I miss you much already. I am sorry that life always threw you so many challenging obstacles but you always fought the good fight and always prevailed. This last battle was a heck of a fight but now you are victorious you have fought the fight and The prize is all of “God’s glory” where there is no more pain and suffering but just pure joy... I am sorry I was not there for you more my Brother. I was in denial that you would be taken from the earth and especially taken so soon. Please forgive me my Brother. I will forever love you with all the depths of my heart. I will cherish all the memories I have of you and with you forever...Until we meet again I love you always...

A legacy
I know of a man whose legacy will never fade, whose impact will never be matched. His talent, self taught, through years of dedication, years of learning his art took form. From dusk till twilight he would craft, through blood sweat and heart he would elevate his masterpiece from ugly as dirt to beautiful as the suns set under a clouldless sky, when his job was finally done he would sleep only to awake the next day and repeat his process. Some would attempt to imitate his style yet even with one arm he would out do any who would challenge. His hands once lay upon thousands of trophy winners, and though his name may not have been spoken every time, they always knew "it's you know who" if ever he requests would slow he would wait 10 minutes until he heard "you did these, can you do that for me" and his legacy would continue. Although today his body may have begun to fail him, art still flows through his mind, his creations still flow through the streets, his life's work will never be forgotten and I know that Ray Lunas art will forever shine above us as beautiful as the moon.
