Obituary

1922-2019
Ruth L Auge, age 97, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 after a short illness. She was born in Hale County, Texas and moved to Elida NM where she began her teaching career. Ruth later moved to Los Lunas to become a Home Economics teacher. Her next move was to Belen where she taught Home Economics at Belen Junior High until her retirement. Ruth was most proud of her 40 years of teaching. After her retirement, Ruth and her husband, Lee travelled the world extensively visiting all continents except Antarctica. Most of all, they enjoyed playing golf together wherever they could, especially in Ruidoso and in Phoenix, she even scored a hole in one. Ruth's life revolved around her family and the family business, Auge Sales & Service. She was often seen in the showroom at Auge's, greeting customers and visiting with old and new friends. Many friends would leave with a smile and a tatted bracelet. Ruth was a charter member of the Belen Methodist Church in 1947, where she faithfully attended. She was also a member of the Belen Historical Society, Chuckwagon Cowbells, and Stitcher's Club. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Lee Auge in 2015; and brothers, Sydney and Travis Lutrick. She is survived by her sister, Pauline Stone of Abernathy Texas; sons, Robert and wife, Nelda of Belen, and Ed and wife, Denese of Belen; grandchildren, Brian (Cathy) of Spencer, NY, Tim (Susan) of Los Lunas, Jeremy of Los Lunas, Carrie Trueba (Kenny) of Albuquerque, David (Camilla) of Albuquerque, and Melissa Auge (Abraham) of Los Angeles, CA; seven great grandchildren who were dearly loved by Ruth, Dylan and Callie Auge of New York, Jared and Kylie Trueba of Albuquerque, Hunter and Alessandra Auge of Albuquerque, and Kory Auge of Los Lunas; and brother in law and sister in law, Ray and Chris Auge. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews that she loved to visit with. Cremation has taken place. All services will be held at Belen United Methodist Church, on Saturday, August 3, 2019. A Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a Memorial Service to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made to the Belen United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505)864-4448.

What wonderful memories I have of Ruth...too numerous to mention here. From our meeting when she inadvertently "stole" my book and affectionately became known as the "Book Thief" to our many visits together. How she loved telling stories of her own history as a teacher and as an adventurer. Ruth was just a beautiful, spiritual and loving person.

Ruth was so proud of her family. She doted on her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her light was always shining and we will miss her but keep her memories alive in my heart.

Mrs Auge was my home economics teacher in Jr High, she was a great teacher. So glad I was able to see and visit with her a few months ago.

I had the honour to spend time with Ruth during my year as an exchange student in Belen in 1997-98. We played golf together and talked about life. Ruth was warm and had lots of humour, a lovely person to be around. I’m thankful and blessed to have known her and she will always have a special place in my heart ❤️

Mrs Auge was a very nice lady. She was my mom's teacher and than became mine. A fond memory my mom has of Ruth is that in her class, everyone had to make a pair of clothing. She wanted everyone to wear what they made. My mom made a skirt, mind you, one side was longer than the other, but she wore it. I have a bracelet that she made and gave to me, that I will cherish. I will miss seeing her around the shop, always with an interesting story and a smile. I'm so thankful for spending these past few weeks with her. I will miss your mom.
My condolences to Robert and Ed and the Auge family.
