Paula Kay Weathersby received her angel wings on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. She was born in Belen, NM on August 16, 1940.
Paula married her high school sweetheart after graduating from Belen High in 1958. She was a beautician and bank teller for Ranchers State Bank prior to working for Valencia County. Paula also worked for the First Baptist Church of Belen for several years before returning to Valencia County until her retirement in 2006. Paula was a wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, but was best known as “Nana”. She never missed an opportunity to talk about her grandchildren and was determined to go to as many basketball games as possible. Paula leaves us with many memories of the silly little things she’d say, her sparkling blue eyes, and mischievous smile. Paula will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Weathersby; parents, VT and Nell Barker; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Woody Hunter; brother, Gene Ray Barker; and mother and father-in-law, CR and Udell Weathersby.
Paula is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Mickey Weathersby; daughter, Lisa Mattox; grandchildren, Joshua Mattox, Hannah (Alex) Salazar, and Jacob Mattox; and many others who loved and cherished her dearly.
A Graveside service will be held at Terrace Grove Cemetery, on Saturday, October 5, 2019 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Reception will follow at First Baptist Church of Belen. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505)864-4448.

To Weathersby and Mattox Family
Our deepest sympathy for your loss. Paula was a woman blessed with a heart of gold. Her thoughtfulness and generosity is beyond measure. Whether it was sponsoring an AAU tournament or feeding coaches and players at practice or road games did not go unnoticed. Seeing the joy and love in her eyes watching her grandsons, Joshua and Jake, and Jaguar basketball will be missed. May God be with you during this sorrowful time.

Coach Aragon and Colleen

I am so sorry to hear of Paula's passing. I was fortunate to work with Paula in the County Clerk's office for eight years. We had our ups and downs but in the end, she was a pleasure to work with and was missed when she retired. I always appreciated her support and wisdom through the years even after she retired. She was always a loyal friend to those she loved and worked with. I regret I will not be able to attend the services on Saturday, my condolences to her friends and family.

Lawrence, Lisa and Lilly Kaneshiro.

Paula was one of the sweetest, kindest and most loving people I have ever known. Her smile could light up a room and she had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved her family! Her children and her grandchildren were the light of her life and she was so proud of each of them. She left this world a much better place, just by being Paula ! We send our love, our thoughts and our prayers to Mickey, Lisa, Hannah, Josh and Jake. With love, Sue Ellen, Everett, Gannon and family
