Obituary

1943-2020
“A hundred years from now, the ONLY thing that will matter is I made a difference in the life of a child.” Marjorie Louise (French) McGarrah, age 76, lifelong resident of Valencia county passed away peacefully on Jan. 31, 2020. Born in Union, New Jersey she moved to New Mexico at a young age with her parents. An educator, she loved students and they loved her in return, with many becoming lasting friends. She was a graduate of UNM with a degree in Education and NMSU with a degree in Library Science. She began her career as an English Teacher at Gadsden High in Anthony, NM, but was best known as longtime Librarian at Los Lunas High. She also worked at Isleta Elementary. She enjoyed retirement traveling with family and friends, feeding chickens, and doing ancestry research. She loved animals, especially her dog Bisbee, and was involved in several groups and organizations. Marjorie was a kind hearted woman, a loving mother and wife who spoiled all of those around her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and parents Marjorie and Winston French. She is survived by sons Charles "Chuck" McGarrah Jr. (Debbie), and Jonathon McGarrah (Francis); beloved grandchildren, Katrina (Joseph), Logan (Andrea), and Shane (April); seven great grandchildren; brother Winston “Bill” French (Linda); two sisters-in-law’s Anne McGarrah (Debbie) and Jeanette Meadows; nephews Alan Meadows, and Nolan Meadows (Laura and children Cody and Adrianna); nieces, Jodi Campbell and Jamie Peterson: and special friends Fran and Jerry Brock.
Services will be held at Peralta United Methodist Church on Friday, February, 21, 2020. A Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a Funeral Service to be Celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery following the Reception. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505)864-4448.

Marge was such a warm and loving person! We were in a book club for many years and we all enjoyed her good humor and literary knowledge. Such a sadness to have such a beloved woman pass so young! RIP, Marge!

My deepest condolences to the family of Mrs. McGarrah. It came as a total shock to read of her passing. I'm one of the lucky people who had the opportunity to work with Mrs. McGarrah at LLHS. I'll always remember her willingness to work with and help anyone with a problem. She was such a wonderful person and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.

Dear McGarrah Family, Charlie, John and Bill: I am so sorry to hear of your Mom and Sister's passing, and hoping that you will each find comfort in the many memories you hold in your hearts! Mrs. McGarrah definitely made a difference in many children's lives, and she made a difference in mine, always being so helpful when we worked together. I watched her work with students, she was a loving and caring educator, she was dedicated to helping all students, and she did. I will always smile when I think of Mrs. McGarrah, that is how everyone reacted to her, and that is the love she shared with everyone! I am very Blessed having known her, thank you for sharing her with so many of us!!! Paul T. Luna.
